How To Live an Abundant Life

Abundance means different things for different people. For some it's a nice holiday, for others it's a flashy sports car, or a big house. And that brings me to my first point. Abundance is whatever you allow yourself to reach for. And this can be a material possession, a relationship, friendship, health, happiness, or whatever else you desire.

Why do some people have the big house, the happy relationship, more than enough money in the bank? It's because they've allowed themselves to experience these things in their lives.

If someone gave you a cheque tomorrow for $3 million, you'd probably accept it? But would you feel comfortable with it? Or would you on some level feel that you don't deserve it? There are many people out there who would feel more than uncomfortable because they believe that they haven't done enough to deserve receiving such a big amount for 'nothing'.

The Universe, however, is abundant. There is no shortage and the belief that we have to work hard, or even do work we despise in order to be worthy to receive, is a false belief. Beliefs about abundance can take many different forms from 'I don't deserve' to 'money doesn't grow on trees', or 'money doesn't make you happy'.

Whatever you attract into your life, whether that's financial, love, romance, health, friendship, family, etc is all a reflection of the state of mind. It's not a reflection which school you visited, or which university you went to. There are many examples in today's world of people who have a very limited education and yet are some of the wealthiest people on the planet. There are examples of people who've cured themselves from incurable diseases just through the power of the mind. All these are living testimonies of the power of the mind and how it creates our lives.

Abundance is linked to how we view our lives in this very moment. And it literally boils down to whether or not you see the glass as half full or half empty. Are you a person who focuses on what you don't have rather than what you do have? The law of the Universe states that you will receive more of what you focus on. If you focus on your debt, if you spend thought energy on cursing your old car, if you focus on all the things in your partner that are wrong - then you will get more of that. Because that is how simple yet powerful the Universe responds to your thoughts that you send out.

Create a vision in your mind of what it is you want to attract. Make it as colourful and elaborate as possible. Even cut out pictures from magazines. Write down on a piece of paper how you would like your life to live. Don't just include material possessions. Write down how you would want your average day to look like. Are you working, are you raising a family? Do you have many friends, are you living in the city or the countryside? How much money do you have in the bank? And how do you feel when you wake up? Really create the dream for yourself. Important - write down exactly what you want as if you already have it. Remember, the Universe takes your thoughts very literal. So if you write 'I'm going to live in a big house in the countryside.', this will always be a future vision for you and it will stay in the future. In other words, it is not going to materialise in your present life ever.

Once you've created your present vision of how you want to live your life, be grateful. Be grateful for everything that you already have. Be grateful for the food you can eat, for the friends and family you have, for the TV set you own, yes, even be grateful for the rusty old car in your drive, or your health. Even if you're not feeling well, your body is still keeping you alive. So be grateful for that!

Gratitude is one of the most powerful forces behind abundance. If you want to attract more of something into your life then be deeply grateful for already having it in your life. And the Universe will put on its skates and delivery more of it to you by first class mail.

And when you've expressed your deep gratitude all you have to do is be open to receive. The Universe will send you the right people, the right circumstances to bring your vision into your reality. So if you get a little niggling thought to buy a certain book, to talk to a person you get introduced to, go for it. It's probably the Universe sending you your wish.

What you currently have in your life is a reflection of how you felt about your life in the past. That can be a controversial statement that many people don't like to hear. It is far more pleasing to the ego to hold on the idea that other people, circumstances beyond our control, are responsible for what we have.

From my own personal experience, having gone through long-term illness, and having had times in my life when I felt utterly poor, I know that understanding the power of our own mind and accepting this power, is the biggest revelation you can have. You are the creator of your life and everything that you experience. Once you accept this you can spend your energy, your thoughts, your focus on what you want to materialise in your life. Isn't that much better than believing that you have no control whatsoever over your own destiny? I know I'd much rather have some degree of say over how I live my life than having the feeling that I'm at someone else's mercy.

I can share from my own experience that it takes practice to stay focused on what you want, rather than what you don't want. And it also takes practice to listen to your inner guidance and to recognise when your wish materialises through a person you meet, a conversation you're having with a friend, a book you're drawn to, or a magazine article you read. Manifestation doesn't mean wham bam there it is in your lap. You still have to take some action and responsibility. For example, if you wish to make a million dollars, you may be drawn to writing a book, or taking a course on starting your own business. It's the Universe sending you the inspiration for making your dream come true.

Go on and create abundance in your life. Be creative and be abundant, that is the biggest gift that you deserve to explore and experience. Stay focused on what you want at all times, be grateful, and be ready to receive.
