With the financial markets in a state of unpredictability, and with the credit markets extraordinarily tight, many luxury services are cutting back and some of these businesses are shutting down altogether.
This is certainly true for the interior design business.
But Tish Mills of Harmonious Living, a nationally recognized interior design firm, is not cutting back. In fact, she's busier that she's ever been, and she's using her connection to Divine Guidance, her intuition, to make it happen.
I spoke with Ms. Mills on a Blog Talk Radio show recently about how she's creating this success against all the odds.
While Ms. Mills is capable, credentialed, competent and talented, she credits part of her success in today's market to the strong connection she has with Divine Guidance, her intuition, and the many Divine practices she embraces every day.
Following is a general recap of our discussion.
Know the Outcome Before It Happens and Believe in It
"The number one thing I do that has made all the difference in my successes is that I know there is no other possible outcome than for me to be successful. There's simply no other option for me."
Van Rossum: "How did you learn to trust that you were on the right path?"
Mills: "Oftentimes by not trusting Divine Guidance and experiencing the fallout of that. Eventually it was harder not to trust than it was to just trust it and flow with it."
TruAwareness
Mills: "I use TruAwareness from "All You've Ever Known" every day to help me to stay focused, move beyond my fears and to help me to grow and change in the ways that I need to. It helps me to accomplish what I want more easily and gracefully."
Van Rossum: "Are there other times when you use it as well?"
Mills: "I use it everyday to open and sharpen my intuition, but also if I wake up in the middle of the night knowing there's something I need to see more clearly, TruAwareness really helps to bring it forward for me."
Pay Attention to the Signs
Van Rossum: "I think that's just one of the things that you do so well. You pay such close attention to all the Divine and intuitive signs that drift through your day and night and you honor them for the helpful Guidance that they are.
Those messages that come through in the middle of the night or the seemingly random thoughts that float through our minds during the day - I call those moments Divine email.
Many people think those thoughts are distractions, but they're Divine messages that come to us in the ways that they can.
When I receive those messages, sometimes I don't have the bandwidth to sit with them in the moment that they come through, so I'll write it down and meditate with it later. It's really amazing the information and Guidance that unfolds."
Mills: "You know, sometimes I'll be working and a name will just pop in my head. Rather than discounting it I'll write it down because I know I'm meant to connect with that person in some way. When I meet with them later, it's a meeting that always proves to be really helpful in some way."
Honor Your Life Purpose
Van Rossum: "How long have you been interested in design?"
Mills: "Well, all of my life."
Van Rossum: "But you began your career in corporate america. How did you start there and how did you make the transition?"
Mills: "My family was into real estate development so I grew up in that world. At age 9 I designed my first space and I knew that's what I wanted to do, but I was discouraged from going into interior design. My parents didn't want me to tread into the emotional land mines that are so often a part of the interior design process. It's a deeply personal process for so many people."
Van Rossum: "But you found your way into interior design anyway. How did you know this was your purpose?"
Mills: "It was an interest that wouldn't let go. I resisted it and pushed it away for a long time and then I finally gave into it and began to follow it full time and as a result the phone began to ring immediately with jobs for me."
Van Rossum: "That's a beautiful story. You know, so many people are searching for their purpose but they can't quite figure out what it is. There's the old adage that your purpose is whatever you would do in the world for free. But too many get stuck in the 'I don't know' of the searching process and they stay there. I encourage them to make it their intention to know their purpose. From there the Guidance can flow. When you stay in the 'I don't know' of any quest, you're resisting.
Do you think you'd be as prosperous and happy as you are today if you hadn't honored your life purpose?"
Mills: "No, definitely not. I'd be spending all of my time feeling miserable and somehow punishing myself for how unhappy I was."
Van Rossum: "So you think that embracing your life purpose has an affect on your prosperity?"
Mills: "I do."
Van Rossum: "I do as well. I see a direct connection to the flow of prosperity in someone's life and whether they're embracing their life purpose or not."
Practice Affirmations & Visualizations
Van Rossum: "From a perspective of connecting with Divine Guidance, what else do you do to nurture along your prosperity?"
Mills: " Well, I visualize everything. Literally, everything. I'm very clear on what I want everything in my life to look like, feel like, and turn out."
Van Rossum: "So, this is more than just a moment of visualizing how you want the deal to turn out, isn't it?"
Mills: "Much more, definitely.
Mills: I'm also deliberate about practicing affirmations every day for every area of my life."
Using the Pendulum
Mills: I also use the pendulum to help move energy and clear the way for me in different situations."
Van Rossum: "I think you learned about the pendulum from the same gentleman that I did, Raymon Grace. He's a wonderful man and quite a healer.
Mills: "Absolutely!"
Honor Your Intuition
Van Rossum: "You obviously have a strong connection to your Divine Guidance, have you always been this intuitive?"
Mills: "Well, early on I don't think I gave myself permission to be intuitive. For most of us I think it's something you have to learn to trust."
Van Rossum: "How did you learn to trust your intuition?"
Mills: "It's taken me all of my life to get here. I spent a lot of time pushing it away and trying not to open up to it. But then I realized that life would have been a lot easier for me if I had been listening to that little voice rather than ignoring it.
You know, you learn to honor it by not honoring it and getting the proverbial two by four between the eyes as a result. One of the things you taught me was to be gentle with myself in those moments, and not to beat myself up about the times when I missed it."
Van Rossum: "And then the next time around - by golly, honor your intuition!"
Mills: "Yea, you bet."
Van Rossum: "We get so many signs in the form of feelings, dreams, thoughts, songs, words, but we ignore them because we're not used to relying on that part of ourselves, that connection we have to the Divine. It takes some time to understand it."
Van Rossum: "You've had opportunities in your personal life where you could have ignored certain intuitive hits you received, but you chose to pay attention to them and embrace them. Even though that meant there would be a lot of change in your life as a result. Do you think you would be as prosperous today if you had chosen to ignore your intuition in that moment?
Mills: "No, no way. I would be so extremely unhappy today and not nearly as prosperous if I hadn't paid attention to what I was sensing then. But I did and now I'm on a prosperous and happy path, even though it meant I had to go through a lot of change to get here. I'm happy that I am where I am."
