I was immersed in a stunning painting hanging in a hotel in Victoria, British Columbia in Western Canada, near the USA border. We had been to Butchart Gardens and were waiting for the ferry home.
The painting was beautiful. It was the impression of a "vision." What you might call "reality" was in black and white. The vision itself was in vibrant colors.
When my friend came up I said, "I want this painting." Her response was, "Do you want the painting or the PhD.?" I want both.
Here it is about 10 years later and the painting is hanging on the wall behind my left shoulder. The "PhD" is hanging on the wall in my office.
The Poor Say "Either/Or"
When my friend said "Which do you want", I could have accepted the limitations held within her question. That's what most of the world does. You can't have it all so you limit yourself. You also restrict the possibilities of manifesting abundance in your life.
Can you really only have a close relationship or an amazing career? If you accept the belief that success in the workplace requires many hours away from family and friends, then that is exactly what you create for yourself. If you believe having a healthy happy family only occurs if you have limited financial resources, then that is what you get.
Why? Because either/or prevents you from looking beyond the limits of the box you place yourself. You will either have a poverty of love or a poverty of finances. Which would you prefer?
The Rich Say "Both/And"
When you ask yourself, "How can I have both," your subconscious mind begins to sort through all the possibilities available and present to you ways to have both. You'll begin to notice new options, new opportunities. You won't "settle" for restrictions. You will look for creative ways to bring both into your life.
I take great pleasure in my painting. I am proud of my PhD accomplishment. It really wasn't difficult to have both. I simply needed the determination and openness to notice the possibilities in front of me.
Possibilities are everywhere. You have to open your mind to seeing them.
The Power of the Subconscious Mind
Few people realize how powerful their subconscious mind is. It actually wants to please you and make happen exactly what it thinks you want. If you say "either/or," that's what it will arrange for you. If you say "both/and" it works for that solution.
Begin entertaining the possibilities of "both/and."
