If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for? Without giving it a second thought, most people would instantly ask for money. It seems like that is what society is conditioned to want, money and lots of it? And for some, acquiring wealth is their only and ultimate goal.
However, these people make the mistake of using money to define them as a person. Make no mistake about it, money is great. But it is only a medium of exchange. It does not define us. It is our attitude and way of thinking that defines us.
True wealth lies in characterizing ourselves by who and what we are, not by what we do or do not have. You can never measure your self-worth by your net worth. As mentioned earlier, for many, acquiring wealth is their end goal. However, most never reach that goal.
Why?
Because once they arrive at their objective, they are left feeling empty. They feel empty because they did not acquire the other important things, outside of money, that fulfill us as human beings - such as camaraderie, loving relationships, spirituality, and the like.
These are all important pieces of the puzzle that every human needs to feel fulfilled. But what do these people do, they aspire for more...money. They believe more in their bank account will fill the emptiness in their lives.
But money alone cannot take the place of all the other things mentioned above. It is not end in of itself, but a means to a greater end.
In the end, money is truly a blessing - so long as we don't make it a be all and end all in our lives. It should be used to add dimension to wealth.
So remember, wealth does not come from what we have. It comes from what we do with what we have.
