Lately I have so integrated the ideas of the law of prosperity and the law of attraction that I just assume that everyone the world over knows exactly what I'm talking about when I mention them. It's as they're a foregone conclusion, just the same as the law of gravity or something. And well, they are. But nevertheless a lot of people have never heard of them.
So what is the law of prosperity and the law of attraction?
The law of attraction states that thoughts have the power to attract things. Thoughts become things. A dominant thought becomes a belief, and what we believe to be true, becomes true.
The law of prosperity is very similar to the law of attraction. The law of prosperity states that we have to FEEL prosperous in order to become prosperous. Therefore we need to THINK prosperity in order to attract it.
According to the law of prosperity, whatever we believe about prosperity will become true!
Whatever you believe is true, will show up in your experience. So if, for instance, you believe that money is hard to come by, well, it will be for you. If you believe life is difficult and unrewarding, it will be for you. If you believe you always have what you need, and life is an amazing adventure, it will be for you.
Haven't you ever noticed how one thing can mean such different things to different people? For example, if somebody gave me a hundred bananas, I would be thrilled: wow food for a week!!! Whereas if you gave someone else a hundred bananas, they might think 'what the hell am I supposed to do with all these bananas?' and not see it as a wonderful gift at all.
It's all a matter of perspective and how we choose to interpret our lives. We choose our experience. All of us could choose to see a hundred bananas as a wonderful, abundant gift. We choose how to see things and whether to make our lives easy or difficult, just by what we choose to think, and therefore believe.
What are your dominant thoughts? Have you examined your beliefs? These beliefs may not even be on a conscious level, you may have to dig deep to figure out what they are, and once you know what they are, you can start to replace them with the beliefs you consciously CHOOSE to have.
Your beliefs could be standing between you and your own abundance and prosperity. If you have a belief system that is not congruent with your goals, you will struggle to achieve your goals.
So lets talk about money! The law of prosperity. What are your beliefs about money? Do you think you have to work very hard for money? If you had to set a financial goal, would you imagine that you would have to work superhuman hours in order to achieve it?
Most people do think this. Most people think that time and money are mutually exclusive. You can have one or the other, but never both. I used to think this too. I thought I was more interested in having a life than in having money, not thinking I could perhaps have both.
What are your negative beliefs about money? Do you think money makes you greedy? Do you think rich people are selfish?
The more abundance and prosperity you have, the more you can give. The more you have the bigger the difference you can make in the world. Bring on the money. What good are you doing for poor people, as a poor person yourself? What honor is there in struggling to pay the bills?
We've built romantic notions out of the 'struggling artist' image, as if there is beauty and grace and virtue in suffering. Well it's really not necessary. We came here to have a joyful experience, not to suffer. There is no reward coming because you sacrificed yourself.
We live in an abundant world, everything that we can imagine, can be. If you imagine you can only have money but no time, that will be what happens. What are you seeing in your reality? Realize that you created all of it. And if you don't like what you see, it's time to look at your underlying belief system, you'll find all the answers there.
Do you ever say things like 'filthy rich' or 'stinking rich?' Do you say things like 'I can't afford that' when you see nice things? Well guess what, you just made sure you never will afford it. Unless you change your thinking and start to think prosperity.
How do you feel when you're in the room with very successful people? Do you feel like one of them? Or do you feel uncomfortable or defensive? How will you become successful yourself if this is your attitude towards success?
Having begun to understand the law of prosperity and to face down my own limiting beliefs I have begun to see them so clearly in others and it is so sad to see how we limit ourselves.
No one does it for us, we do it all by ourselves. Only you decide how much or how little you are worth. Only you decide how much or how little success you deserve. No matter how talented you are, if you don't truly believe that you are worthy of prosperity, it will never show up for you.
Think about how most lottery winners are bankrupt within a couple of years! By the law of prosperity, you cannot keep what you are not aligned with!
They did not change their consciousness about money. If you haven't changed the way you see money, you can be given vast sums of it, and you will lose it, or it will be stolen or something will happen, as the world around you can only reflect YOURSELF back to you.
If you can change your consciousness about money and begin to think prosperity in accordance with the law of prosperity then you won't need to win the lottery, you will have the ability to manifest all the abundance and prosperity you want.
So how do you change?
Identify your underlying beliefs
Realize that YOU are NOT your thoughts. You are actually in control of your thoughts, though at the moment, your thoughts are more than likely controlling you.
Take a step back and observe. Observe your thought patterns, watch the things you say. Start to realize how often you say negative things about money or success.
If you find yourself saying 'oh it's easy for THEM, they've never had to worry about paying the rent' in a scornful manner, stop and examine this statement. Why are you scornful? Do you think there is something special about having to worry about the rent?
Identify where you are pushing away the very things that you want in life. And start to weed out those beliefs. They do not define you. They are just thoughts that you had for a period of time and they became beliefs.
Focus on where you want to be, AND NOT on where you are
If you're acting poor, chances are you're thinking poor. By the law of prosperity thinking poor is never going to attract prosperity into your life. Thoughts become THINGS!
No matter how difficult your current situation, you have to find a way to distract yourself from your current experience, and imagine a new reality. If you can find a way to FEEL PROSPERITY then you can attract prosperity into your life.
Realize that there is enough for everybody, including you
The notion of scarcity is one that has been built up so strongly, that most of us sincerely believe that there ISN'T enough for everyone. We believe in scarcity of resources, that we have to compete with each other to survive. This is not true.
We live in an abundant world, by you having something, you do not deprive anyone else of anything. When Bill Gates gives away billions to charity, he doesn't expect to tighten his belt as a consequence. Of course not. Money comes in, money goes out, it is as easy as breathing.
Okay, it isn't for most of us, but it SHOULD be. Money is just a means of exchange, it has no inherent power except what we attach to it. Start believing that there is enough for you too, that you can also experience the law of prosperity in the most abundant way possible.
Listen to spiritual teachers discuss the law of prosperity
Spiritual teachers like Abraham Hicks, Louise Hay and Eckhart Tolle have helped me enormously, and continue to help me.
The Secret is a wonderful film which clearly explains the concepts of the Law of Attraction and the Law of Prosperity, so I highly recommend that too.
Play Visualization Games
Play games where you imagine yourself spending millions of dollars. What would you buy, what would you do? But imagine that each day the amount you have to spend is increasing, so your bank account is never going down, it is only going up. Have fun with it. In the book Ask & It Is Given Abraham Hicks suggests a lot of different 'prosperity games' which are designed to make you feel good about money. Money needs to become your friend.
Think about the underlying message in your actions
When you hoard things, the message you are giving out to the universe is that you don't believe you can get more. You don't believe you have the ability to experience the law of prosperity in a positive way.
Is this what you want your message to be? One of scarcity? Clear out what you don't need, clear your cupboards of the things you don't need and give them away. By doing so you are sending out the positive message to the universe that you are ready for the new! You are ready to receive new things and start afresh.
Are you scared to spend money? Are you selfish with your money? Are you hanging on to your money fearfully and denying yourself what you really want?
When you FEEL abundance and prosperity in your surroundings, that just makes it easier to attract more abundance and prosperity. Even if your surroundings are shabby, you can feel prosperous sitting on a beautiful beach, or walking in a lush forest. You don't have to HAVE prosperity to FEEL prosperous. However, if you can FEEL prosperous, you will soon HAVE the prosperity to match the feeling.
Good things happen to people who feel good!
You don't need to monitor every thought that goes on in your head, you just have to monitor how you feel. Your emotions are the barometer for the vibration you are sending out, and for what you are attracting.
People with limiting beliefs about money will feel bad when they think about money, they will think thoughts of lack and scarcity, thoughts of worry or despair. By the law of prosperity, these thoughts will just attract more lack and scarcity into their experience.
When you are in a state of joy, love and gratitude, you cannot be thinking about scarcity. So realize that it is as simple as that, monitoring how you feel, and when you start to feel bad, consciously begin to choose thoughts that will bring you back to happiness again.
Realize that the thoughts making you feel bad are always focused either in the past, which is gone, or the future which is just an illusion. As Eckhart Tolle says: 'You cannot be both unhappy and fully present in the Now.'
Stop participating in activities that make you feel bad!
Nothing good can come out of feeling bad, and nothing bad can come out of feeling good. So do the things that make you feel good. If adding up your debts every five minutes causes you anxiety, then stop doing it! If calculating your bills stresses you out, stop doing that too! Realize that by focusing on debt, and not enough money, you are just attracting more debt and more 'not enough'. Stop giving your power away to money. YOU are in charge, you are in control.
There are no external circumstances. If you learn to take charge of your mind and your thoughts, you can have, do, or be whatever you want. Remember that if you're thinking negative thoughts, you're creating a negative reality. As Mark Twain once said: 'A lot of really bad things happened in my life, and some of them actually happened.'
