Do you think God wants you rich? And I don't mean rich in good virtues-that's a given. Do you believe that God wants you to walk in overflowing wealth and health? Well, He does. Abundance and prosperity is not a 'worldly' desire, it has its origins in the Bible. In fact prosperity scriptures from both the Old and New Testament prove this to be so.
You will find that many of God's most favored people enjoy not only great riches but a reputation of high value. Abraham was said to have such an abundance of herds, cattle and servants that he had to separate from Lot, his nephew, because the land could not support both of them. Abraham's wife Sarah was so beautiful that she solicited the attention of the King of Gerar when she was 90 years old! What is she taking and where can we get it, right? That is supernatural abundance in excess.
Another story of prosperity is Joseph. As we all know, things did not start out great with this person. Sold by his brothers, wrongly accused by the wife of his master, forgotten by a friend he helped out in prison- who knew he'd turn out to be the second in command to Pharaoh himself? God did. Joseph was given a vision of his prosperity decades before and despite the obstacles that faced him, God came through for him. Is this you? Did you have a dream of a good life but the challenges that seem to meet you at every turn seemed to much to bear? Don't give up; God wants to see your dream to come to pass too.
Now, ok you say, God does want His people blessed. But that was the Old Testament and He was talking about the Jewish race-- that has nothing to do with me. Read the books of the New Testament closely and you will find these promises apply to you as well. Because Abraham is the father of Faith, all who believe are heirs of the promise. So when God said many, many centuries ago to Abraham: 'I will bless you and make your name great; I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed' (Genesis 12:2-3)-if you can believe, it can be yours too.
Many times there are bible verses that seem to promote poverty as a God ordained state to live in. This cannot be true because God uses prosperity as a reward to those who seek to obey and follow Him.
1 Chronicles 22:13
Then you will prosper, if you are careful to observe the statutes and the ordinances which the LORD commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be dismayed.
Mark 10:29-30
Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the Gospel's who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time-houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecution-and in the age to come, eternal life.
Prosperity scriptures are tempered with the wise counsel of not putting your faith in riches, and giving generously to those in need. However, all things considered, there can be no doubt about God's will in terms of your personal prosperity. Jesus said, 'I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly' (John 10:10)-Let us not put amazing grace to waste.
