Attracting Abundance - Why Focusing on Money Alone Can Be a Deterrent to Your Well-Being

If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for? Without giving it a second thought, most people would instantly ask for money. It seems like that is what society is conditioned to want, money and lots of it? And for some, acquiring wealth is their only and ultimate goal.

However, these people make the mistake of using money to define them as a person. Make no mistake about it, money is great. But it is only a medium of exchange. It does not define us. It is our attitude and way of thinking that defines us.

True wealth lies in characterizing ourselves by who and what we are, not by what we do or do not have. You can never measure your self-worth by your net worth. As mentioned earlier, for many, acquiring wealth is their end goal. However, most never reach that goal.

Why?

Because once they arrive at their objective, they are left feeling empty. They feel empty because they did not acquire the other important things, outside of money, that fulfill us as human beings - such as camaraderie, loving relationships, spirituality, and the like.

These are all important pieces of the puzzle that every human needs to feel fulfilled. But what do these people do, they aspire for more...money. They believe more in their bank account will fill the emptiness in their lives.

But money alone cannot take the place of all the other things mentioned above. It is not end in of itself, but a means to a greater end.

In the end, money is truly a blessing - so long as we don't make it a be all and end all in our lives. It should be used to add dimension to wealth.

So remember, wealth does not come from what we have. It comes from what we do with what we have.

Attract Abundance and Get What You Want by First Focusing on What You Want!

The first step to a more successful life is as easy as pie because all you first need to do is start paying attention to the flow of thoughts in your mind. At the moment, your thoughts are scattered and unfocused. Scattered and unfocused thoughts are about as useful as an umbrella in a hurricane when you are trying to attract abundance into your life. Whereas thoughts that are controlled and focused on your desires and preferred outcomes are powerful forces that work effortlessly to draw the things you require to you.

Your life is entirely of your own making, so look at how you are living. You claim you want financial abundance but you are constantly moaning about how expensive things are and dwelling on lack and absence. You may wish for more money and abundance but you will never get it while your consciousness is one of lack and worry. Or perhaps you are looking for a more challenging job or one that pays more. However, if you keep telling yourself that these jobs just aren't available to someone like you then guess what? You will NEVER have a better job than you have now because in order to attract abundance, you first need to have an abundance consciousness.

If you really want to change your circumstances then you must first change your consciousness. A successful person is on who has a success consciousness and a wealthy person is someone who lives their life with a prosperity consciousness. These people didn't get where they are today by focusing on lack or poverty. They became what they are by first nourishing the required consciousness which then enabled them to attract to them the necessary tools and opportunities to get what they wanted.

You may say that it's easy for people who already have wealth and prosperity to have a successful consciousness, but these people didn't start out that way. They were once like you, thinking and dwelling on lack but through effort and concentration they built a success consciousness that enabled them to become aware of what they needed to do in order to attract abundance and get the most out of life. The consciousness always comes before the reality because your inner world will and does dictate your outer world.

Start by stopping excuses and reasons. Just do it! Whenever you feel that you want something or to be something more successful then start thinking of ways to have that. Think only of how it WILL happen and bypass the reasons why it could fail because they will serve you not. The only obstacles before you are the ones that you place there out of ignorance. Something you may once have perceived as an obstacle will become something else entirely, they will become stages and learning points that you have to learn in order to progress to the next level which will inevitably be more successful than the last one and so on.

The Power of Attention – Focusing the Consciousness

In his book, Raja Yoga, Yogi Ramacharaka (William Walker Atkinson) says about the power of attention:

“The word Attention is derived from two Latin words “ad tendere,” meaning “to stretch toward,” which is really what attention is. The “I” wills that the mind be focused on some particular object or thing, and the mind obeys and “stretches toward” that object or thing, focusing its entire energy upon it, observing every detail, dissecting, analyzing, consciously and sub-consciously, drawing to itself every possible bit of information regarding it, both from within and from without. We cannot lay too much stress upon the acquirement of this great faculty, or rather, the development of it, for it is necessary for the intelligent study of Raja Yoga.”

“Attention has been defined as a focusing of consciousness, or, if one prefers the form of expression, as “detention in consciousness.”

“In the first case, we may liken it to the action of the sun-glass through which the sun’s rays are concentrated upon an object, the result being that the heat is gathered together at a small given point, the intensity of the same being raised many degrees until the heat is sufficient to burn a piece of wood, or evaporate water. If the rays were not focused, the same rays and heat would have been scattered over a large surface, and the effect and power lessened.”

“And so it is with the mind. If it is allowed to scatter itself over the entire field of a subject, it will exert but little power and the results will be weak. But if it is passed through the sun-glass of attention, and focused first over one part, and then over another, and so on, the matter may be mastered in detail, and a result accomplished that will seem little less than marvelous to those who do not know the secret.”

“The Attention does not readily fasten itself to uninteresting objects, and, unless interest can be created, it requires a considerable degree of Voluntary Attention in order that the mind may be fastened upon such an object. And, more than this, even if the ordinary attention is attracted it will soon waver, unless there is some interesting change in the aspect of the object, that will give the attention a fresh hold of interest, or unless some new quality, characteristic or property manifests itself in the object. “

“This fact occurs because the mind mechanism has not been trained to bear prolonged Voluntary Attention, and, in fact, the physical brain is not accustomed to the task, although it may be so trained by patient practice.”

Excerpted from Raja Yoga by Yogi Ramacharaka (William Walker Atkinson).

The power of attention can be developed by practicing concentration exercises. You can find a complete chapter on the power of concentration, together with exercises and instructions in the book Visualize and Achieve and in the book Peace of Mind in Daily life.
